Health, United States, 2008, is the 32nd annual report on the health status of the Nation prepared by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services for the President and Congress. In a chart book and 151 detailed tables, it provides an annual picture of the health of the entire Nation. Trends are presented on health status and health care utilization, resources, and expenditures. Health, United States, 2008, identifies major disparities in health and health care by socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, and insurance status. Many aspects of the health of the Nation have improved, but the health of some income and racial and ethnic groups has improved less than others and for some groups, the gap has widened.

Demographic Factors, Life Stress and Depression Among Minority Women
It assesses the association between demographic factors, life stress and depression among minority women in the United States. By using the data from Commonwealth Fund Minority Health Survey (CMHS), we find that black and Mexican women do not significant differ from their white counterparts in terms of their stress and depressive symptoms, whereas Asian Americans do. Compared with white women, Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese women appear to have higher level of depression. Confronted with life stress, Korean women appear to be more vulnerable than are their white peers, and Chinese and Vietnamese women are more resilient and less likely to be affected by life stress. These findings are actually inconsistent with previous studies, which indicate uniform mental health status among Asian subpopulations. www.allacademic.com//meta/p_mla_apa_research_citation

Effects of Primary Care Depression Treatment on Minority Patients' Clinical Status and Employment
Functional outcomes of care for depression, such as continued employment, may be more limited for minority than nonminority patients. Because minority members are less likely to get appropriate care, efforts should be made to engage minority members in effective care for depression.
